Dr. Myung Oh is a former Deputy Prime Minister who held four ministerial positions under four different administrations in Korea, beginning with his service as Minister of Communications in the 1980s.
During his term as Vice Minister and Minister of Communications in the 1980s, he directed the development of the Time Shared Exchange switching system, the four-mega DRAM semiconductor, and the super minicomputer, thus paving the way for South Korea to take off as a world-class IT powerhouse. He also established the National Administration Network and led successful IT-support participation for the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988.
During his term as Minister of Transportation and as Minister of Construction and Transportation in the 1990s, he spearheaded the building of the Seoul to Busan high-speed train system and Incheon International Airport, which later positioned South Korea as a logistics hub in Northeast Asia.
As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technology in the 2000s, he led future-oriented industrial policy initiatives in bio-industry and space development. He sent a Korean astronaut to space for the first time in Korean history and played a decisive role in developing Korean satellite in a rocket.
Dr. Oh’s iconic leadership is powered by his sincere trust in his followers, who take pride in the distinction accorded him in Korean history. Dr. Oh holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stony Brook University and is acclaimed as the “godfather” of Korea’s telecommunications revolution and as “a futuristic leader whom all Korean presidents love to call upon in Korean history”.
